My love affair with black-owned fashion brands
I'm not a fashion blogger, I just like nice things.
Welcome to Shop with Rafiki.
I’m a 20-something in love with indigenous fashion brands, cheesecake, African Fiction, and design.
I’m starting this because of peer pressure mostly, and because I might burst if I don’t get to share these finds with people beyond my close circle - my Instagram Stories.
But just before I tell you how to sign up, let me give you a little background.
When I moved back home, I struggled with buying clothes for a couple of reasons.
the exchange rate is wildly unstable so it’s difficult buying clothes from foreign brands especially with an entry-level salary.
sizing is a struggle, big marketplaces like ASOS don’t have a unified sizing chart, so I’ll do loads of guesswork and spend plenty of money only to have to tailor my clothes when they come.
Between these two reasons, I started looking at local brands doing really great work, turns out that there’s a lot of them. They come with great price points, have styles and fabric selections that work well with our climate, and allow me to send in my measurements for a perfect fit.
Now, I’m ready to share them with you.
I can’t promise to send you emails every week, but I can promise at least once a month, or even every other week if life and work are kind.
Let’s go live!
In the meantime, tell your friends!
