#16 - Quit Li-nen to me
I live in Lagos, and let me tell you, it's hot. Very hot—it's almost unbearable. I need cool clothes
I can’t lie, I’m proud of this email subject.
Hi friends!
Happy New Year! I know, it's May, but I'm still wishing you a happy new year. I'm a bit embarrassed about the timing, but I'm thrilled to be back. It's been quite a year for me—eventful and slightly surreal. I got paid to help people figure out their style, assisted a bride with sourcing accessories for her big day, and received gifts from several brands.
I can hardly believe how much my hobby has evolved. And you know what the best part is? I couldn't have done it without you. Thank you for trusting my recommendations and introducing me to new brands. Thank you for sharing my posts.
Now, let's get into why we're here.
I don't know where you live or where you are at the moment, but me, I live in Lagos, and let me tell you, it's hot. Very hot—it's almost unbearable. So, it's essential to dress for the weather.
Linen and cotton are undoubtedly the best fabrics for this weather. In this article, I'll be sharing a few places to shop for linen pieces, along with their price ranges and what I like about them
Linen Vanille
I remember the first piece I saw from them—the Namib set (pictured). I bought it almost immediately, and believe me, I'm not usually impulsive but their designs are just that irresistible. Their styles are incredibly unique, well-tailored and will make you feel like the protagonist of your very own travel reality show.
While they have a pretty decent size range, they currently don't offer sizes below 8. Nevertheless, I'm confident that if you reach out to them, they'd be willing to work something out.
Additionally, they've recently expanded into jewellery, and their pieces carry the same thoughtfulness and intentionality as their clothing

Ara Ile
When I introduced this brand to a friend, her immediate question was, 'How do you find all these amazing brands?' Truth be told, I haven't shopped with them yet, but they're high on my list. One piece that caught my eye is their cut-out dress—it's incredibly chic, and the tiny details like the beaded ties elevate the look.
Ara iIe is a unisex brand, and its designs for both men and women are meticulously crafted. And for all the couples reading this, yes, you can have your his and hers sets. You're welcome.

Ozoza
So at first, I thought this was a lifestyle brand or a magazine because their Instagram is a sight for sore eyes. However, upon closer inspection, I realized that it was a fashion brand that sold affordable linen pieces.
While their current linen line isn't extensive, they've got all the essentials covered—pants, shorts, and some of the most beautiful breathable round-neck long-sleeve shirts for both men and women
Prices start at about NGN 16,000
THIS IS US
THIS IS US has a fantastic range of climate-appropriate clothing, but lately, their prices have been a bit out of my reach. Still, I can't help but share because I admire their wide range of options, from cozy loungewear to versatile basics perfect for any occasion. Plus, they've got something for everyone, with unisex pieces and even clothes for the little ones.
The good thing is that they do a sale every so often so follow them and keep your eyes peeled on their page
Prices start at about NGN 45,000
87 Origins
While I haven't personally purchased from this brand, I've heard great reviews, particularly about the quality of their clothing. Described as a 'contemporary label providing modern, understated, endlessly versatile wardrobe essentials' they seem to live up to this description.
Their color choices and styles are meticulously curated, reflecting a strong commitment to minimalism. However, it's worth noting that their prices are on the higher side, comparable to brands like THIS IS US. Nevertheless, they offer a wide range of clothing for both men and women, from everyday basics to full outfits suitable for work and casual events

If you know me, you know that anything related to Shop with Rafiki or What Rafiki Wore wouldn't be complete without mentioning them. They were the ones who opened my eyes to the magic of Nigerian fashion brands, and I'll forever be grateful.
They're my OGs of breathable materials like linen and cotton, and they nail the comfortable-cool-girl aesthetic like nobody else. With an inclusive size range and a diverse array of styles in their collection, including options for modest fashionistas, they've got something for everyone. While they don't currently have a dedicated men's line, some of their pieces are unisex.
